Industrial Control and Monitoring
The Brief
A large and strategically important, multi-million dollar piece of infrastructure owned by the client, required an extensive distributed monitoring and control system. A number of peculiarities meant that conventional off-the-shelf solutions could not meet the specifications, and no suppliers of traditional industrial control systems were able to tackle the task. Databerry Systems was engaged to design, build, test and commission, the entire system.
The Deliverable
-
Design of three different types of custom networked electronic interface modules (hardware and embedded firmware) that provided for specialised monitoring and control of analog and digital signals.
-
Design of the integrated system comprising:
-
Multiple instances of the custom modules providing the required specialised interfacing to hundreds of sensors and control points.
-
Supervisory controllers (PLCs).
-
Touch screen user interfaces.
-
Numerous communications channels using Ethernet, fibre-optics, and other industrial protocols.
-
-
Complete build of the system, including manufacture of the custom modules, and assembly of all components into free-standing 19-inch racks, and other enclosures.
-
Documentation and advice to client electrical contractors and control engineers enabling them to install the system and integrate it into their corporate SCADA system.
The Outcome
The system was successfully implemented and has performed its function flawlessly for many years resulting in the continued viability of the infrastructure. The highly-customised system was also recognised in the industry press as a unique and novel solution.
